Homemade Tomato Sauce: Freeze for Spaghetti

There is nothing quite like the rich and flavorful taste of homemade tomato sauce. Whether it’s for a big batch of spaghetti or to use as a base for other Italian dishes, homemade tomato sauce always hits the spot. And what’s even better? You can make a big batch and freeze it for later use, saving yourself time and effort down the line.

Here’s a simple and delicious homemade tomato sauce recipe that you can make in large batches and freeze for spaghetti nights and beyond.

Homemade Tomato Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:
– 8-10 ripe tomatoes, diced
– 1 onion, finely chopped
– 4 cloves of garlic, minced
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
– 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
– 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions:
1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

2. Add the diced tomatoes to the pot, along with the salt, sugar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer.

3. Once the sauce is simmering, reduce the heat to low and let it cook uncovered for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. After 30-40 minutes, add the chopped basil and parsley to the pot and stir to combine. Let the sauce cook for an additional 10 minutes.

5. Once the sauce has finished cooking, use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth. If you don’t have an immersion blender, you can transfer the sauce to a regular blender or food processor to puree.

6. Let the sauce cool completely before transferring it to storage containers for freezing.

To freeze the sauce, portion it into airtight containers or freezer bags and label them with the date. It can be stored in the freezer for up to 6 months.

When you’re ready to use the sauce, simply thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and heat it in a pot on the stove before serving over your favorite pasta. This homemade tomato sauce will elevate any spaghetti meal and make it extra special.

So next time you’re in the mood for a comforting bowl of spaghetti, reach for your homemade tomato sauce from the freezer and enjoy the rich, homemade flavor that you worked so hard to create. Your taste buds and your family will thank you!
