Homemade Tomato Sauce Recipe:

Ingredients:
– 10 pounds of ripe tomatoes
– 1/4 cup olive oil
– 1 large onion, finely chopped
– 4 garlic cloves, minced
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped

Instructions:
1. Begin by preparing the tomatoes. Score the bottom of each tomato with an “X” and then blanch them in boiling water for 1-2 minutes. Remove the tomatoes and place them in ice water to cool. Once cooled, peel the tomatoes and remove the cores. Roughly chop the tomatoes and set aside.

2. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

3. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, salt, sugar, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and then reduce the heat to low. Let the sauce cook, uncovered, for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally. As the tomatoes break down, use a wooden spoon to crush them further.
