To make this delicious and easy canned pizza sauce, you will need the following ingredients:

– 1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes
– 2 tablespoons of olive oil
– 1 small onion, finely chopped
– 3 cloves of garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
– 1 teaspoon of dried basil
– 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
– salt and pepper to taste

To begin, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until they are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, being careful not to let it brown.

Next, add the crushed tomatoes to the saucepan and stir to combine. Then, add the dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir everything together and let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

While the sauce is simmering, prepare your canning jars and lids by washing them in hot, soapy water and sterilizing them with boiling water. Once the sauce has finished simmering, ladle it into the prepared jars, leaving about 1/2 inch of headspace. Wipe the rims of the jars with a clean, damp cloth to remove any sauce residue, then place the lids on the jars and screw on the bands.

To can the pizza sauce, process the jars in a boiling water bath for 35 minutes. Once the processing time is complete, carefully remove the jars from the water bath and let them cool on a towel-lined countertop. As the jars cool, you should hear the lids “pop” – this is the sound of the jars sealing properly.

Once the jars have cooled completely, check to make sure the lids are sealed by pressing down on the center of each lid. If the lid doesn’t move, the jar is sealed; if it pops up and down, the jar did not seal and should be refrigerated and used within a week.

Now that your delicious and easy canned pizza sauce is ready, you can store it in a cool, dark place for up to a year.
